Effective Treatment for Anxiety Disorder at The Cabin Dubai
Anxiety is actually a family of disorders with related symptoms. Common anxiety related disorders include generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder, specific phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder, social phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder and substance-related anxiety symptoms. The symptoms that all of these disorders share are fear, worry, heightened states of arousal, nervousness, inability to concentrate, overreaction to potential or imagined problems and impairment in work, social and educational functioning.
Anxiety disorders are very common and research in Western countries report that as much as 28 per cent of the adult population has experienced or is currently experiencing an anxiety-related disorder. Anxiety disorders often appear in late teens and early adulthood, but later manifestations are not at all unusual, especially after experiencing a stressful situation or a dramatic change in life circumstances.
Left untreated, anxiety disorders rarely go away by themselves. While some people learn to modify their lifestyle in order to live with the symptoms, it’s more common for a sufferer to be in danger of career or social failure, substance abuse and even suicide.
At The Cabin Dubai, we treat anxiety disorders on an outpatient basis using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). CBT is the most popular and effective therapy model used in the US and UK today. Our CBT treatment of anxiety disorders does not require (and even discourages) any medications, as we have found that the faster a client returns to normal baseline functioning, the sooner they can complete counselling.
CBT combines the cognitive (thinking) relationship to anxiety, with the behavioural (action) portion, to identify, challenge and modify thoughts and actions that create and maintain anxiety symptoms. CBT is a directive therapy, in that the counsellor will educate and train the client, but the client is ultimately responsible for applying and practicing the techniques learned in therapy. When you complete The Cabin’s anxiety disorder treatment programme, you will have mastered these new techniques and can assimilate them into your daily routine, likely preventing a future anxiety episode and need for consequent therapy.
