Effective Treatment for Adjustment Disorders at The Cabin Dubai

An adjustment disorder, sometimes called ‘reactive disorder’, develops when a person is unable to cope, adjust, or bounce back from a life disturbance of some kind. Adjustment disorders differ from mood disorders and most anxiety disorders because there is a specific, identifiable incident that triggered the problem.

A person suffering from an adjustment disorder may experience symptoms such as:

  • Sadness
  • Hopelessness
  • Lack of enjoyment
  • Worry
  • Desperation
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Crying spells
  • Nervousness
  • Anxiety

Adjustment disorders often occur following some kind of loss or major life change, such as: the ending of a relationship, death of a friend or loved one, loss or change of job, moving to a new location, financial hardship or children leaving the home.

An adjustment disorder is diagnosed by the presence of symptoms in excess of what the average person would experience, or lasting significantly longer.  About five to 10 per cent of the population have experienced some type of adjustment disorder, but many people may have never been diagnosed, misdiagnosed, or self-medicated themselves with alcohol or drugs.  People suffering from adjustment disorders are often told to “get over it” or “move on” by well intentioned, but uniformed friends.

At The Cabin Dubai, we treat adjustment disorders with focused and personalised outpatient therapy, using a combination of cognitive behavioural therapy and client-centred therapy.  Normally, medications are not required for treating adjustment disorder and we find that one to two sessions a week for about a month is usually enough for our clients to get back on track and move forward with their lives.

Please note: if you prefer, we offer Telehealth services, allowing you to receive treatment from the comfort and privacy of your own home.
